ARCS Member Receives Governor’s Award

Posted on Tuesday, February 12, 2019

New ARCS® Atlanta Chapter member Vikki Millender-Morrow carries a natural spark that brings programs to life. Through 20 years at AT&T and now as a seasoned Chief Executive Officer for the National Black Arts Festival (NBAF), she uses her role to create order, financial stability, and innovative programs.

In October 2018, Millender-Morrow accepted one of 10 Georgia Humanities Governor’s Awards for Arts and Humanities on behalf of NBAF. The organization was recognized for a historic 30 years of providing stellar artistic and educational programs in music, dance, film, visual and literary arts, and theater.

More recently, Millender-Morrow's dynamic leadership skills enabled her to carry out the event season for the NBAF’s 30th Anniversary, which includes capitalizing on Atlanta hosting Superbowl LIII. NBAF will host a fine art exhibit at September Gray Gallery, which specializes in works by African American and African Diaspora artists the day before the big game. The organization’s annual fashion event, Fine Art + Fashion, is scheduled for March 27, and funds raised will support NBAF’s arts programming for underserved youth in local schools.

Millender-Morrow was drawn to joining ARCS after attending a luncheon in Atlanta with ARCS Atlanta member Suzy Wasserman. She noted that she was blown away by the scholars and the work ARCS is doing to advance science in America, and quickly joined.  “As an engineering graduate, I look forward to working with the other committed women of ARCS to support the next generation of scientists,”  she said.

Millender-Morrow graduated with a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  She earned a Master’s in Public and Private Management from Birmingham Southern College and is a member of the 2009 Class of Leadership Atlanta.
