ARCS Illinois Scholar Award Dinner

Registration is closed for this event

Join us for an evening celebrating our 2019-2020 scholars!

Our keynote speaker this year will be Dr. Wendy Freedman, John and Marion Sullivan University Professor in Astronomy and Astrophysics and the College, Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at The University of Chicago. Dr. Freedman will be speaking on "Studying the Cosmos / A Life in Science".

Dr. Wendy Freedman's research is in observational cosmology (measures of the expansion rate of the universe using the Hubble Space Telescope, Spitzer Space Telescope and the ground-based Magellan telescope). Her current projects involve measurements of the Hubble constant -- the current expansion rate, as well as the past expansion rate, providing constraints on the acceleration of the universe and dark energy. Her other field of interest is the stellar populations of galaxies, the evolution of galaxies, and the initial mass function.

Current projects:

  • Carnegie Supernova Project

  • Carnegie-Chicago Hubble Program

  • Hubble Space Telescope Key Project
