AMC 2019: Why Portland, Oregon?

Posted on Tuesday, May 14, 2019

Plan to visit Portland, Oregon, September 18–21 at the ARCS 2019 All Members Conference (AMC) and experience the history, the food, and the shopping! Here is a quick look at a few Portland highlights:

AMC is hosted at historic The Nines Hotel

The Nines Hotel occupies the Meier & Frank department store building, along with Oregon State University Foundation and other enterprises. Remember the phrase: “Dressed to the Nines”?  M&F was known for its clothing, as well as for furniture, home goods, and more. The hotel carries the heritage of the main Portland department store by having mannequins and artwork related to the retailer throughout the hotel.

No sales tax, no problems!

Souvenir shopping can take on new life because there is no sales tax in Portland! Take an afternoon to visit Powell’s City of Books, just 10 short blocks from The Nines. It’s the largest used and new bookstore in the world, occupying an entire city block and housing approximately one million books! Or, travel across the river to Lloyd Center for three floors of shopping with 150-plus shops.

Love food? You’ll love Portland.

Portland is known for its diverse, innovative restaurants and award- winning chefs. You’ll find farm-to-table dishes, regional delights, and food truck dining catering to vegan and gluten free diets. During a free evening at the AMC, visit nearby restaurants like Arden Wine Bar or The Q.

Stay tuned to ARCS Achievements newsletters in the coming months for more insider info as you plan your visit to Portland!
