ARCS Foundation Atlanta Chapter's General Membership Meeting and Luncheon is set for Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Emory University's Rollins School of Public Health. Dr. Gary W. Miller, Associate Dean of Research and Asa Griggs Candler Professor of Environmental Health will speak on the topic of "Doctoral Education -- World's Best Return on Investment." Following Dr. Miller's talk, attendees will have the opportunity to tour the Rollins School of Public Health.  Jeanne B. Berdik, National President of ARCS Foundation will be our special guest.

The following is an excerpt from a column that ran in the Atlanta's Northside Neighbor Newspaper on November 7, 2012. Forty scholars from Georgia colleges and universities will be recognized at the annual Achievement Rewards for College Scientists Foundation Inc. Atlanta chapter luncheon Nov. 14 at the Ritz-Carlton in downtown Atlanta. Take a noble mission, a small group of smart, dedicated women and a lot of hard work and what do you get? – The 20th Anniversary of the vibrant Atlanta Chapter of ARCS Foundation.  This year is an appropriate time to celebrate the accomplishments of the Atlanta Chapter and its founders and to reflect on how the chapter has grown and succeeded over the past two decades. Growth: Since 1992, the membership has increased from 16 founding members and 20 charter members to the current 146 active and associate members.  During the chapter’s first year, members supported three scholars; today, they support 40.  Funds required to support awards have grown exponentially from $15,000 in 1992 to $285,000 in 2012—the largest amount in the Atlanta Chapter’s...

The ARCS Foundation Atlanta Chapter’s Scholar Awards Luncheon on November 14 will present a total of $285,000 in awards to 40 outstanding scholars from Emory University, Georgia Institute of Technology, Morehouse College and the University of Georgia. Keynote speaker, Dr. Daniel L. Barrow, MBNA/Bowman Professor and Chairman of the Department of Neurosurgery and Director of the Emory Stroke Center at Emory University School of Medicine, will discuss health issues and advancements related to his field.  In the past 20 years, ARCS Foundation Atlanta has given nearly 600 awards amounting to over $2.5 million dollars.  For more information, email rsvp.atlanta@arcsfoundation.org.

Jamaji Chilaka Nwanaji-Enwerem, a biology major, was recognized as Morehouse College's 2012 valedictorian during the school's 128th commencement. Jamanji was the Kathy and Dennis Berry ARCS Scholar for 2010-2012. In his thank you note, he wrote:  "I am confident that the biological sciences are one tool that I will use to positively influence the world.  Moreover, I still have the desire to become a professor and researcher at a medical school or some institution of higher learning.  Your assistance not only encourages me to continue working hard, but also give me further motivation to help others.  Thank you."
