Outstanding Scholars at Outstanding Universities
Thousands of America’s outstanding science, engineering and medical research graduate and undergraduate students have received ARCS scholar awards allowing them to excel in their studies and prepare for their careers. They are supported by members of ARCS® Foundation Chapters, who are dedicated to ensuring scientific excellence in this country.
According to the National Science Board, science and engineering are essential components of our economy’s stability and growth, yet the number of degrees awarded in these fields to American citizens is not keeping pace with the nation’s needs.
ARCS® Foundation helps to provide fuel for the human engines of the economy. Since its founding in 1958, ARCS Foundation has funded nearly $79 million in more than 13,650 scholar awards to 8,120 academically gifted graduate and undergraduate students. Partnering with 52 of the top colleges and universities across the nation, ARCS Foundation Chapters support U.S. citizens pursuing degrees in dozens of fields of study.
One hundred percent of scholar award contributions from corporations, endowments, individuals and the all-women volunteer members of ARCS Foundation goes to fund these motivated students, many of whom enter the nation’s governmental agencies and corporations to advance U.S. science, engineering, medicine and technology.
ARCS Foundation’s scholars have completed significant research, founded companies, received numerous patents, and published extensively.
In addition to financial investments, Chapter members take a personal interest in their scholars. ARCS Foundation donors keep in touch throughout academic careers, and often beyond.
Scholars have not only benefitted from the awards themselves, but also from the significance of the recognition, the networking opportunities and the personal relationships established with and through ARCS Foundation members. As one scholar commented, “Being named as an ARCS Foundation Scholar was a great honor. The ARCS Foundation award provided additional funds so that I didn’t have to worry as much about finances. Most of all, I enjoyed meeting other students and members of ARCS Foundation. Hearing about others’ work, sharing my project and talking with members of ARCS Foundation about their lives and interests gave me extra inspiration to work hard.”
