About ARCS

"Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known."  - Carl Sagan

About Achievement Rewards for College Scientists

The ARCS Foundation was established half a century ago with a unique vision of what America needs to remain technologically strong and internationally competitive.  In the global economy of the 21st century, the United States will continue to be successful by developing our intellectual resources.  The ARCS Foundation invests in the future of America by providing awards to academically talented graduate students in natural science, medicine, and engineering.

            • The 1,600 visionary women volunteers who comprise ARCS
               raise funds to support
scholars in scientific research.

            • The ARCS Foundation was incorporated in 1958 and, since
that time, has awarded over $70 million
to 12,000 scholars.

            • There are 17 ARCS chapters nationwide, supporting almost
               50 universities.

            • ARCS Scholars are all US citizens with outstanding
              scholastic
records (3.5 GPA required) and proven
              abilities, receiving
multiple offers to study at the best

universities in the country.  This very competitive and
              coveted award will often
make a difference for students
              when they
are deciding which university to attend.

            • The ARCS Foundation, Inc. was awarded the James
               L. Fisher
Award for Distinguished Service to Education
               by the Council
for Advancement and Support in Education
               (CASE)
in 2009.

The ARCS Foundation is one of the largest contributors to basic science education of any private membership organization in the United States.

"I'd like to thank each of you once again for my ARCS scholar award.  The opportunities that you are providing for me and my fellow scholars mean a great deal.  The removal of just one extra worry with your generous gift, as well as the warm and enthusiastic support of the ARCS members, make an even greater difference during this second year of studying and research.  You all have a huge impact on my life as I continue to work towards my Ph.D."
