September 26 -- Scholar picnic at Gabriel Park in Southwest Portland. Scholars, donors, ARCS members and university mentors are invited to greet new and returning scholars.
October 19 -- Scholar Awards Luncheon at the Portland Art Museum. Keynote Speaker: Bill Gates, Sr.
November 2 -- Dr. Amy Dreves, OSU's "Bug Lady" entomologist, presents "The Invasion of the Asian Fruit Fly." Hoffman Corporate Offices, Fox Tower.
January 6 -- Dr. Kim Burchiel, Chair, Department of Neurological Surgery, speaks about Parkinson's Disease. Center for Health and Healing, OHSU.
February 1 -- Dr. Susan Hayflick speaks about steps for finding cures for genetic diseases. OHSU.
March 3 -- Dr. Mark Richardson, Dean, OHSU Medical School, moderates a panel discussion on healthcare reform. Guests are invited; refreshments will be served. Vey Auditorium, Doernbecher Hospital.
April 6 -- Visit OSU to hear Dr. Kelly Benoit-Bird present "From Zooplankton to Great Whales: How Animals Feed in the Ocean."

November 13 -- Fetal fat syndrome: the effects of maternal diet and health. Juvenile obesity and diabetes take center stage under the tutelage of expert Dr. Kevin Grove. Oregon National Primate Research Center, Administration Building, Malinow Meeting Hall
January 7 -- Retirement Rx: A Prescription for the Rest of Your Life. Dr. Fritz Fraunfelder, founder of the Casey Eye Institute and director emeritus, presents a talk on how the retirement years can be healthy, productive, and rewarding. Casey Eye Institute, Lobby Level
March 5 -- "How Your Body Clock Affects Your Sleep and Mood.” Dr. Al Lewy, an internationally recognized specialist in sleep disorders, depression and jet leg gives an eye-opening talk. Scholars and guests invited; refreshments. Vey Auditorium, Doernbecher Hospital
April 2 -- Bus leaves Portland for OSU. See the impressive wave lab, the Kelley Engineering Building, and the Linus Pauling special collections.

November 8– Dr. Thomas Wang, facial plastic surgeon, speaks about his work internationally and at home.
January 10--Visit OGI to hear Dr. Antonio Baptista, director of the Center for Coastal Margin Observation and Prediction.
February 7– Dr. Charles Thomas talks about the emerging technology in clinical radiotherapy. Center for Health and Healing
March 6– HemCon’s Simon McCarthy, Ph.D., speaks about the development of bandages made from shrimp exoskeletons. Vey Conference Center, Doernbecher Hospital
April 3– Dr. Aaron Janowsky helps members understand methamphetamines, methadone, and schizophrenia and other mental illness. VA Hospital Building

October 26– Scholar Awards Luncheon features Dr. Brian Druker, JELD WEN chair for leukemia research at OHSU Cancer Institute will speak on his successful development of the drug Gleevec, an effective treatment for chronic myeloid leukemia. Multnomah Athletic Club
