The Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS) Foundation is a national all-volunteer, all-women organization dedicated to providing scholarships to academically outstanding students pursuing degrees in certain fields of natural science, medicine and engineering.
The Foundation was formed in 1958 by a group of women in Los Angeles following the Soviet launch of Sputnik. They saw the need to support American technology by providing scientific scholarships to outstanding students.
Today, there are 17 ARCS Chapters -- Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, Honolulu, Los Angeles, Lubbock, Metropolitan Washington, Minnesota, Northern California, Orange County (CA), Phoenix, Pittsburgh, Portland, San Diego Seattle, Tampa Bay and Utah -- with a national membership of over 1,500.
The ARCS Foundation makes awards to 52 schools across the country, and in 2009-2010 the cumulative total since its founding grew to more than $70 million in scholarships.
ARCS Mission
The ARCS Foundation provides scholarships to academically outstanding United States citizens studying to complete degrees in science, medicine and engineering, thereby contributing to the advancement of science and technology.
